Next chief executive Lord Wolfson donates £4m bonus to staff

Posted by Unknown on Wednesday, April 9, 2014

The bonuses will be paid in May and will work out to be roughly 1.5pc employees’ annual salary.

The chief executive also announced that retail sales assistants and stock room assistants would receive a 37p hourly pay rise effective from June 1.

The £4m was awarded to Lord Wolfson through a share matching plan, which began in 2011. His remuneration for last year will be disclosed in the company’s annual report due to be released this Friday.

This is the second time Lord Wolfson has shared his bonus with the staff. Last year he waived a £2.4m bonus and shared it among the staff, but still collected a £4.6m pay package.

Last month, Next revealed that its annual profits are on course to overtake those of Marks & Spencer for the first time since it was created in 1982.

The growth in Next’s profits was driven by an 18pc increase in profits from Next Directory, which is now more profitable than the company’s stores.
