The car maker, which was spun out of McLaren Group – famed for its Formula One team, reported a pre-tax profit of £4.5m last year, on revenues of £285.4m, up £18.8m on the previous year and ahead of the company's target.
While global sales for 2014 are expected to remain broadly in line with last year, the company said it was "on course for even greater success" in 2014, boosted by the production of a new sports car at the lower-end of the price market, so it can challenge the likes of Ferrari and Porsche.
Called P13, McLaren said the car would make the company "more accessible" to consumers.
At the other end of the price scale, McLaren will also produce a track-only version of the P1 which will only be available to those clients who already own the road-legal P1.
Demand for these cars will mean profits and turnover will be higher in 2014 than last year, McLaren said.
"The latest financial results, and returning a profit so early in the life of the company, are a real credit to the tremendous team within McLaren Automotive, and reflect their hard effort," Ron Dennis, chief executive and chairman of the McLaren Group and chairman of McLaren Automotive, said.
The company said it would also continue to invest in R&D. Last year, McLaren invested £70.6m in this area, up from £2.5m the previous year.
