Google has bolstered its internet shopping business by buying UK start-up Rangespan.
The British company, founded by two former Amazon executives, uses data to help retailers decide which products to sell and when.
“We are very happy to announce that Rangespan is joining Google,” Rangespan said on its website. “We will continue to work on services for shoppers and retailers at Google, and we’re super excited about the opportunities to come.”
The terms of the deal, which is expected to see Rangespan integrated into Google, were not made public.
Rangespan, which was backed by Octopus Investments, was founded in 2011 by Matt Henderson and Ryan Regan. Mr Henderson formerly worked at Amazon as a director of merchant services in the UK, while Mr Regan was employed at the e-retailer for eight years in roles including managing director.
It is the third British acquisition Google has made this year, after deals for AI-specialist DeepMind and anti-malware start-up Spider.io.
