The warehouse is more than 60,000 square metres in size and contains over 10 million boxes of packaging.
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said that several floors had been "badly damaged" by the fire.
"The fire involving the ASOS warehouse on Park Spring Road, Barnsley is now out, with one fire engine remaining at the scene to ensure any remaining 'hot spots' to not reignite," a fire service spokesman said.
"At its height, the fire was tackled by 10 fire engines, an aerial ladder platform and a high volume Pump."
“Asos staff had a good evacuation process in place which assisted the emergency services and allowed the fire to be brought under control more quickly.”
Asos, which stands for As Seen on Screen, was founded in 2000 by Quentin Griffiths and Mr Robertson, a former advertising executive.
It targets “fashion-forward twenty somethings” and has attracted fans including United States First Lady Michelle Obama and singer Rita Ora. It has more than 8m customers around the world.
Police have appealed for the public to come forward with information by calling South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 1210 of Friday 20 June 2014, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
