Bizzby app: a hi-tech way of getting the job done

The app, which launched in January, has already been downloaded 80,000 times. More than £1.3m-worth of jobs have been processed through the app, which currently boasts 500 vetted professionals, from electricians to plumbers to manicurists and spray tanners.

“We’re cheaper than you can find anywhere else,” claims Luvaglio. “We’ve cut out the middle man: agencies take a much bigger cut to cover costs. We charge less and pay the professional more for their services.” Bizzby is only available in central London, but will be rolled out across the capital, Manchester and Leeds by the end of the year. “Once we have proven that the model works efficiently, we’ll export it to New York,” said Luvaglio.

To grow the business in the UK, Luvaglio recently raised $2m investment from a US-based hedge fund. According to TechCrunch, the start-up has received $10m in total funding to date.

Technology is crucial to the service, which uses a proprietary algorithm to ensure that supply and demand ratios are balanced. “At the moment we satisfy 98pc of requests,” says Luvaglio.

Luvaglio plans to equip every staff member with a smartwatch for requests. “At the moment, we give every new supplier a smartphone but we’re looking at wearable technology, smartwatches in particular, as a non-invasive way of alerting them when a job comes in.”
