AA chief Chris Jansen resigns with immediate effect

The AA chief executive Chris Jansen has resigned from the UK roadside assistance provider and motor insurance giant with immediate effect and "by mutual agreement".

He has stood down from the board of the recently floated company, but will only leave the after "an orderly transition", the AA said in a statement on Thursday.

Bob Mackenzie, the former chairman of National Car Parks who earlier this year led a buyout of 69pc of the AA in a deal known as an accelerated listing, will lead the company his capacity as executive chairman.

Mr Mackenzie said: "We completely understand and respect Chris's desire to seek new challenges outside the AA. When the Management Buy-In team acquired the business, backed by many leading institutional investors, we knew that this would create change at the AA. We wish Chris all the best and we are certain he will secure a new and equally significant role in the future."

The company also said finance director Andy Boland will be leaving but the timing of his departure is still to be decided.

Basingstoke-based AA is Britain’s largest roadside assistance provider with 40pc of the market and 13m members.

The self-styled ‘fourth emergency service’ suffered a disappointing stock market debut in June, with the shares falling 7.2pc in their first day of conditional trading. However the shares which floated at 250p have since recovered and closed at 275.75p on Wednesday.
