Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen to release new game this week

Posted by Unknown on Monday, August 18, 2014

Similar to Flappy Bird, which was downloaded more than 50m times, people playing Swing Copters have to tap the screen to make a man wearing a "propeller hat" move left and right. The hero must dodge giant hammers and navigate ledges as he flies upwards, with a point scored for every obstacle he avoids.

His first 2D side-scrolling game, in which the player must control a flying bird without hitting pipes, was released on May 24, 2013, and quickly became a hit. It became the most downloaded free game in the App Store by the end of January 2014.

A month later, Mr Nguyen pulled Flappy Bird from the online store, claiming its popularity had "ruined my simple life". He tweeted: "I'm sorry Flappy Bird users, 22 hours from now, I will take Flappy Bird down. I cannot take this anymore."

Dong Nguyen reportedly received death threats after pulling Flappy Bird from the App Store

He reportedly received death threats, and several similar games were created in a bid to cash in on Flappy Bird's popularity. At one point in March, around a third of new apps uploaded to Apple's App Store were Flappy Bird clones.

Mr Nguyen released a new version , Flappy Birds Family , earlier this month exclusively on Android's app store.
