The company, which owns the City PR firm Citigate Dewe Rogerson, is due to announce half-year results tomorrow and it is understood that the departure of its boss, who has been at the helm for nine years, will be announced along with the group’s earnings.
Furthermore, shares in the group dropped 15.2pc on a single day in July after the group sounded a terse profit alert that warned investors that first-half results would be “below market expectations”.
Lord Chadlington, who is a friend of Prime Minister David Cameron, is a major figure in the PR world. A former adviser to John Major, he founded public relations firm Shandwick 40 years ago.
Matthew Freud, the PR executive who last month disclosed a 3pc stake in Huntsworth, described Lord Chadlington as “a giant” and “one of the genuine founders of the industry”.
Explaining his interest in the company, Mr Freud told The Daily Telegraph that “I recognise a decent PR business when I see one”.

A spokesman for the company declined to comment on the exit.
