He added: "Nineteen countries delivered record net fee performances and we made significant progress against our operational and strategic objectives, for example further expanding our global oil & gas business and making further good progress in rolling out our IT contracting business into new markets."
Broken down by net fees, the UK and Ireland, which represents just over a third of the business, fees rose by 11pc, and in Continental Europe and the rest of the world, which makes up 42pc of the business they rose 7pc.
Net fees in Asia Pacific, which makes up 24pc, fell 18pc, having been hit particularly hard by the Australian dollar and Japanese yen depreciating against sterling, the company said. Construction work Down Under, Hays' largest specialism, was flat while accountancy and finance fell by more than fifth.
The full-year dividend was raised by 5pc to 2.63p, meaning the final dividend, payable on November 14, will be increased by 8pc to 1.8p.
