At a glance, it will show you whether your existing investment shop is cheap (green), expensive (red) or somewhere in the middle. The first image to load above shows costs in pounds and pence; if you click through to the second image the costs appear as percentages.
Bear in mind each may have different costs for other functions but these are the most important.
As a general rule of thumb, the cheapest options for Isa investors with small portfolios are those that charge a percentage, such as Hargreaves Lansdown (0.45pc), Bestinvest (0.40pc) or Axa Self Investor (0.35pc). For larger portfolios - above £100,000 - consider flat-fee brokers such as Aliiance Trust Savings , Share Centre or Interactive Investor.
The Telegraph offers a service that is very competitive for buy and hold investors, charging a capped 0.2pc coupled with low-cost dealing fees: Telegraph Investor Centre (0.2pc plus dealing fees).
The tables are compiled by analysts at specialist consultancy Lang Cat .

IMPORTANT: Charges deducted by the fund management company are excluded* – only charges levied by the fund supermarket are covered. The table covers ongoing annual costs, so any initial charges are excluded. All investments are assumed to be in funds. Where there is a charge to buy or sell funds, we have assumed that there are five fund switches – or 10 trades – a year.

* UPDATE (March 3 2014): some fund supermarkets, such as Hargreaves Lansdown , have used their buying power to persuade fund companies to apply lower charges. Other fund shops say they will attempt to match this – Fidelity , for example, has said it will match competitors' fees until December 31. But how much difference will these reduced fund fees make to the overall cost of investing?
The table below, from Platforum, another consultancy, shows that Hargreaves' cheaper funds, which belong to its "Wealth 150+" list, fail to offer investors the very cheapest deal overall, although they do cut the total cost of investing compared with funds outside the list.
