Commuters will face an even bigger bill to get into work in 2015, with next year’s rail rises expected to rise by as much as 5.6pc on some lines.
The fare increase is set to take effect from January. Ticket prices will rise in line with inflation – with the fare increase capped at 1pc above the RPI inflation figure for July 2014 (published at 9.30am today).
But some travellers will be left worse off. Train companies are permitted to raise certain fares by a further 2pc as long as their overall fares keep to the inflation price cap.
